Monthly Report September 2023

Dear friends

Welcome to our September Monthly Update! 📅

As part of the Impactis scholar wellness program’s emphasis on scholars to develop a broader friend and support circle at college, I’m glad to share that this month has continued to also be about participating in extracurricular activities, from sports to interesting projects to their college fests!

Our wellness check ins and sessions validate that students remain deeply self aware of their strengths and areas of improvement. We continue to give them gentle nudges to work with self-belief, be bold and keep trying new things.

Most continue to explore the latest trends in innovation and discover their interests within it. We will have exciting updates on this next month and on Impactis social handles. Stay tuned!

Lastly, as we prepare for funding the next batch of Small Towns, Big Dreams and I call on you to help us reach a target of ₹15 Lakh by November. Contributions are eligible for tax benefits under 80G and companies are eligible for CSR benefits as well. We only accept contributions from Indian bank accounts for now.

Thanks for your continued support and I hope you enjoy this update.🌠📖✨

Highlights

01. Monthly Group Developmental Session

Our scholars often struggle with rigorous curriculum and challenging coursework. Some are also involved in research and projects that often need innovative solutions.

Our topic of the month was “Are you an effective problem solver?” Being an effective problem-solver enhances academic performance, opens doors to opportunities, and provides the scholars with tools needed to excel in their careers and contribute to society.

What they learnt was that effective problem-solving skills are essential not only to excel academically but also to thrive in their careers, contribute to innovation, and make a meaningful impact on society. These skills empower them to face complex challenges with confidence and creativity.

Hear from our scholars how they actively engaged in activities that kept their mind and body active, fit and more from September 2023.

“When I started at IIT, I gained weight and stopped playing sports, even though I loved them. One day, playing basketball, my bad posture took me back to my school days. I promised myself to get fit. This is my journey to a better me, showing that determination can lead to transformation.”

Facilitator’s Note

In our recent problem-solving session, our scholars embarked on a journey to address a critical challenge. They were asked to immerse themselves in the role of a Lead Product Tech at a leading Dairy Company and devise an eco-friendly packaging solution that reduces waste and minimizes environmental impact while preserving product quality and appeal.

The session ignited a lot of discussions, showcasing the scholars’ willingness to embrace innovation. It was great to witness their thoughts of this real-world problem. Their identification of the problem was a great kick start and they brainstormed and collaborated to understand the overall problems. Furthermore their proposed solutions’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the ideas they have come up with is to be assessed thoroughly.

The session focused on problem-solving a real-world problem which sparked dynamic discussions and fostered innovative thinking. With the promise of SWOT analysis and a commitment to aligning our solutions with global sustainability goals, we are on the path to making a significant difference.

Looking forward to our scholars’ continued progress and impactful contributions.

Coach’s Note

Rahul Shah

“From the storm’s chaos, we form unity, establish norms, and set the stage for exceptional performance”.

This line perfectly encapsulates the transformations that scholars are experiencing in their social, emotional, and academic lives on campus. It’s heartening to witness them regaining their confidence in managing their studies and doing well academically. Engaging in sports, events, projects, and assignments is fostering stronger connections with seniors, fostering a sense of belonging.

I’m delighted to report high ratings across all three domains: Academic, Social, and Emotional. They are now gearing up to consolidate their experiences and enhance their overall profiles.

Coordinator’s Note

Last month was quite busy for the students, with mid-semester exams, quizzes, and various activities. Students were doing planned preparation for their exams, going to the library, and doing more self-study.

After exams, a few scholars had their tournaments, and some focused on programming languages like C++ and Data Structure Algorithms while some planned for a refreshing break like going on tour.

Scholars also shared their viewpoints regarding the developmental session on Effective Problem Solving and have shown active participation in the session.

The ‘Small Town Big Dreams’ Scholarship is a testament to the power of determination and opportunity. Hear what our scholars had to say about how this scholarship has made an impact on their journey!
