Monthly Report August 2023

Dear friends

Welcome to our August Monthly Update! ๐Ÿ“…

This month, our scholars have returned to their colleges and hostels after a well-deserved vacation. They came back feeling rejuvenated, super excited, and maybe just a tad homesick. ๐Ÿ˜Š Some missed the comfort of home, while others were itching to get back to college life, hostels, and most importantly, their favourite projects and extracurricular activities.

Academically, things are getting more specialized and intense as our scholars dive deeper into their respective fields this semester. They are discovering their courses are becoming increasingly branch-specific, and it’s all about honing their expertise.

But it’s not just books; our scholars are exploring life! They are turning into true explorers and venturing to new places with their buddies, experimenting with photography, and trying out different strategies for project success ๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŒ

And that’s not all! Our scholars aren’t just participating; they’re excelling on the extracurricular front too. They’re taking part in inter-college competitions, scoring opportunities like covering Chandrayaan 3 through photography (how cool is that?! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ“ท), and even co-hosting tech sessions with Impactis Global.

It’s safe to say that our scholars are thriving in every aspect of life, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements and zest for learning and exploring. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! ๐ŸŒŸ

Highlights

01. Monthly Group Developmental Session

The group session topic for the month was ‘Think! Don’t Judge’. Acquiring the ability to analyze, evaluate, and make informed decisions is like having a superpower in this information-packed world.

The key takeaways – Don’t just accept things at face value; question, probe, and dig deeper! Critical thinking isn’t about being critical of everything; it’s about being open-minded while sifting through the sea of information that bombards us daily. Communication, problem-solving, and decision-making all get a major boost when you embrace critical thinking. It’s a skill that doesn’t just stay in the classroom; it’s a life skill!

So, here’s to thinking critically, making better decisions, and navigating life’s twists and turns with confidence. Keep questioning, keep learning, and keep growing!

“Critical thinking opens doors, while judgment closes them.”

The session received a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from our scholars

02. Tech talk

In August, we kicked off our very first Tech Talk with our amazing scholars, and it was truly an inspiring experience! We’ve noticed how our scholars’ curiosity has been growing, driving them to explore beyond their regular academic curriculum. They’ve been diving headfirst into the fascinating realms of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science.

We were absolutely delighted to have Satrajit Kar, Deputy Head (Analytical Services, TataIQ) join us for this special occasion. Satrajit, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur with an impressive 16 years of experience working at FICO, Genpact, and TataIQ in advanced Machine Learning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, graced us with his presence. He conducted both individual and group sessions with our scholars, generously sharing his wealth of knowledge and insights about what a career in Data Science entails.

The icing on the cake was that, for the first time, one of our scholars co-hosted the show with the CEO of Impactis Global! The session was a phenomenal success, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 rating. Our scholars couldn’t stop raving about it, and they even took a moment to express their heartfelt gratitude to Satrajit for his invaluable contributions.

We are delighted to witness our scholars’ growing enthusiasm for these cutting-edge fields. Stay tuned for more thrilling Tech Talks in the future! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿš€

Facilitator’s Note

Blazin Fernandes

Developing the ability to assess, analyze, and arrive at well-informed decisions is akin to possessing a superpower in our information-saturated world.

The fundamental message is this: Don’t merely accept things on the surface; instead, question, explore, and delve deeper. Critical thinking isn’t about criticizing everything; it’s about maintaining an open mind while navigating the constant barrage of information we encounter daily.

When you embrace critical thinking, it significantly enhances your communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. This skill isn’t confined to the classroom; it’s a life skill that extends beyond academic boundaries.

So, here’s to cultivating critical thinking, making more informed choices, and confidently navigating life’s challenges. Keep inquiring, keep learning, and keep evolving!

Coach’s Note

Rahul Shah

โ€œWe don’t learn solely through experience; true learning arises from our reflections on experience.” – John Dewey

This sentiment captures the current mindset of our scholars, where they are recognizing the significance of introspection and gaining valuable insights into the adjustments or shifts required in their approaches. It’s heartening to witness their growing awareness of this transformative process, as they proactively embrace incremental changes across the social, academic, and emotional domains.

Based on feedback and their reflections, it appears that they are excelling in the social and emotional domains, while their progress in the academic domain remains at a medium level. They are yet to witness the tangible outcomes of their reflective efforts in their academic scores

Coordinator’s Note

Ragini

It’s great that August month brought students back to their regular classes and academic routine after the vacation. Returning to a structured schedule and focusing on preparing for the new semester is essential for academic success.

Apart from that, students also shared their vacation memories of places they explored like Yelagiri Hills and the courses they enrolled in like Photography and Python and a minor course in information technology. It was good to hear that students enjoyed and are enthusiastic about their studies and adventures.

Student’s overall energy was very good and they were quite excited about the TECH TALK session based on AI, Data science, and machine learning with Satrajit Kar. This session helped students clear their doubts related to AI, ML, and DS and also related to skills required at the workplace.

This Independence Day, we turned to the dreamers โ€“ our scholars โ€“ to paint a picture of the India they aspire to see. From innovation hubs to cultural tapestries, their visions inspire us to stride into a bolder tomorrow.
